Hey Blog, we need to talk….

Hello readers, I think you’re still out there?! First off, I do realize that my last post was back in december so sorry about that. It’s kind of embarrassing really….geez. Needless to say, 2012 has been a busy busy year thus far! Secondly, I have given this lots and lots of thought but…….I am going to be taking an even longer break from blogging. I have been finding it really hard to update it with all the fun things I have been doing, and I feel really bad about that…but it’s true. That’s really all I can say. Somehow I do find time to update my facebook page, so if you are curious about what’s going on at GHEM, give us a “like” and visit the page. And don’t worry, I’ve got some exciting blog ideas in the works with some other like minded gals, and I will be sure to let you all know when it’s ready. take care!

Baby’s got back….drops!

In case it isn’t obvious….I am really loving this whole back drop trend that’s happening right now. I cant get enough of the clusters of paper, fabric, lights,etc! here are a collection of some of my favs from around the web:

The Ring

One of my twitter followers recently asked me if I had any advice for choosing a non-traditional wedding ring….and so I say this, it’s important to choose something that you’re not going to tire of quickly. Stick to simple and classic or choose a designer or design that has a significant meaning to you. You can often find a local jeweler to make something custom too.

When it came time for my husband and I to choose bands we went with Canadian designer Konzuk. For me, Konzuk’s designs are symbolic of our time together living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Karen Konzuk aspires to create jewelry that is more wearable architecture than simple accessory. A fellow graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Karen also designed the school’s alumni ring. Sam Flax Project: Completed!

I spent the last weekend of October in Atlanta installing a project I had been working on for Sam Flax. The installation went really well, I had lots of help from my wonderfully handy husband. It was so great to see everything I had been working on come together in the space. I’m so grateful that they gave me the opportunity to transform their space. Go check out their new space, not only to see my work but to check out their amazing new building!!! I’m not the best photographer….but here are a few photos I snatched!

I was in love with the paper dot garland during this project. They have an amazing collection of fine art papers over there!

Those large paper flowers were made using their watercolor paper.

The NotWedding

Woah, this is WAY overdue but I just had to share these images with you all! Back in July I was a vendor for the NotWedding, a killer alternative to a bridal show. Complete with a sit-down dinner, an emotional ceremony and a dance-party reception. Hand-selected vendors, such as myself, perform their services as they would at a real wedding, and the “wedding guests” get to hear the music, taste the cakes, and touch the linens… while enjoying a night of great food, dancing and surprises. I designed and implemented the entryway to the event….check it out! You may remember my shots of the space before. The first grouping of 3 photos is by a fun photography group called, Once(like a spark) Photography.

I designed the entryway to the event. This was the first space which guests walked through upon their arrival. The amazing event venue, ambient + studio, had a few odd spaces, and this was one of them. There was unfortunately no AC in here either, and in the middle of July in Atlanta you can only imagine what that was like….so the photo below is one I snapped right before it became too humid in there to hang the gold streamer garland.

Happy Halloween!

So basically, Halloween is my favorite holiday. I know I know….I can’t help it! there’s just something about the darkness…pumpkins….and fall that I just love! This year was a little crazy with Jon and I going to Atlanta to finish up a project….I would have loved to have thrown a halloween party…and we were thinking about dressing up as cats, since we are parents to a pretty awesome cat if I do say so myself. Heading to Atlanta…
